In the Spring of 1998, in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Albert  Zaporteza, a bible study was started with a vision that one day a new church could be planted.  There were about 10 persons who attended the first bible study. Pastor Alex Lim conducted the weekly bible study.  Soon after few other members of the Christian Fellowship Bible Church (CFBC) residing in Chino Hills and individuals and families outside the church family attended the bible study.  People from different religious persuasion found their way into the weekly home bible study. After a year and a half, the pastors of the CFBC decided to take the work in Chino Hills to another level.  On the first Sunday of January 2000, the evening service was started at the Chino Hills Civic Center. We rented out the Civic Center from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM. People were slowly trickling in. After some time we discerned that God is leading us to start a morning service with Sunday school.

On May 4, 2003 we conducted our first morning service at the Chino Hills Civic Center.  Fifty-three persons (including children) comprised the Christian Fellowship Bible Church, Chino Hills.  Fifteen families and seven individuals committed themselves to the work at CFBC Chino Hills. The Lord has been blessing His church in CFBC Chino Hills.  In December 28, 2007, CFBC, Chino Hills changed its name to Community of the Word and was legally incorporated for the purposes of spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ and growing Christians to live and worship Him in the Chino Hills area and other neighboring cities. CW Torrance was also planted --- Today, we are a growing church committed to leading people to know Christ; growing people to be like Christ for the glory and honor of Christ.  We continue to be grateful and rejoice in all the Lord has done, is doing, and will continue to do as He builds His church at Community of the Word.
