WHAT WE BELIEVE
ABOUT THE BIBLE
The Bible is the Word of God. It is the creation of God (2Timothy 3:16; 2Peter 1:20-21). It is the objective truth of God and consequently inerrant and infallible. It is the supreme and final authority in faith and life.
ABOUT GOD
There is one true and living God who eternally exists in three Persons – the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. They are equal in power and essence deserving worship and obedience.
ABOUT JESUS
We believe in the deity of Jesus Christ, the second Person of the Trinity. He is God-incarnate to reveal God and redeem man (John 1:1, 14)
ABOUT SALVATION
We believe in the total depravity of man through the Fall. All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). Salvation from sin and death (eternal punishment in hell) is only received as a gift through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ (1Peter 1:18-19). Salvation is the effect of regeneration by the Spirit and the Word, not by works but by grace through faith in Jesus Christ (Ephesians 2:8-9; Titus 3:5).
ABOUT CHURCH
The church (the body of Christ) is comprised of baptized believers assembling together for corporate worship of God, service, and fellowship (Acts 2:42; Hebrews 10:25)
THE GOSPEL
In the beginning, God created the universe (Genesis 1:1; Romans 11:36). God is the supreme Ruler and King and He created people in His image (Genesis 1:27). God placed the first man (Adam) and woman (Eve) in the garden to live joyfully in His presence and in humble submission to His gracious authority. They were free to enjoy everything God has provided them. The only restriction was that they were not to eat from one particular tree.
Sadly, Adam and Eve chose to disobey and rebel against God. Since then all of us have rejected God’s rule over us and have gone to follow our own ways (Romans 3:10-23). Men have sinned and fall short of God’s standard. In consequence of our sins, we must suffer the punishment; which is eternal under God’s wrath in hell (Romans 6:23). Our sin has separated us from God and made a mess of our lives.
God loves us so much that He will not let us live in utter misery. Therefore, God planned and employed a rescue operation. God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, into the world to save us from sin and its penalty, which is eternal death (John 3:16). Jesus Christ, who is the very God became man (Philippians 2:5-8). Jesus Christ, who is without sin, died for our sins; the Just for the unjust; so that He might bring us to God (1 Peter 3:18). He suffered the consequences of our sin by His death on a cross. Three days later, God raised Him from the dead for our justification. He has conquered death and now offers us eternal life.
This offer of salvation can only be received and not earned (Ephesians 2:8-9)) by putting your faith on Jesus Christ and what He has done for us. Also, the Bible teaches that Jesus Christ will return to earth as the conquering King. Only those who have placed their faith in Him will escape God’s judgment and live joyfully in His presence for all eternity. Repent or turn from your sin and believe or trust in Him (Mark 1:15; 1 Thessalonians 1:9). Believe in your heart that God raised Jesus from the dead and confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and you will be saved (Romans 10:10).
OUR VISION
Our vision for Community of the Word is to become a healthy church that is characterized by both qualitative and quantitative growth. By God’s grace, we envision her to grow as a strong community of faith with servant-members, who will reach the world for Christ by communicating the gospel truth visually through the transformed lives of each member, and verbally through the clear and honest presentation of the Word of God, leading more people to become more like Christ.
OUR MISSION
Our purpose is to glorify God by leading men and women to the saving knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ; and then bringing them up into maturity by caring for them, nurturing them in the Word of God, strengthening their fellowship with Christ and with one another and help them grow in faith and love.
